This question has really baffled a lot of people including those of you reading this post right now. Turn your television on and these are the news that would welcome you;
A Tsunami destroys a village killing 700 people and rendering 1500 homeless.
A gunman opens fire in a church, wounding and killing a number of people.
Cancer takes a mother's life leaving behind five children.
When tragedies like these happen it leaves everyone with this painful question, **WHY?? **
The Bible tells us that even men who had deep faith in God asked this same question. Let's see what the prophet Habakkuk said at Habakkuk 1:3;
"Why do you make me witness wrongdoing? And why do you tolerate oppression? Why are destruction and violence before me? And why do quarreling and conflict abound?"
Do you see! You are not alone. But there is something I want you all to take note of, 1 Peter 5:7 tells us that God cares about us. He hates to see us suffer. Still, if he hates suffering so much, then why is there so much suffering in the world today?
Now, come with me as we go back in time to see where it all started. It all began when our first parents Adam and Eve rebelled against God, thereby passing sin on to us. And because of sin, humans cause other humans to suffer.
In that garden of Eden, the devil misled Adam and Eve. When he did that, he challenged God's right to rule and he also called our God a liar, invariably accusing God of being a bad ruler (Genesis 3:2-5) .
Right there an then, some might say, God would have just destroyed these rebels and immediately start a new life on a clean slate. But there is something I want you all to take note of.
Satan the Devil challenged God in front of millions of angels. See what the book of Daniel 7:10;
A thousand thousands kept ministering to him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him.
This clearly shows that these angels are always with God ministering to him. Imagine the thought in their mind when Satan challenged God's right to rule.
From his immense wisdom, God gave Satan time to prove whether his accusation was true. Thus, giving humans the privilege to rule themselves and we all can see the result. This indeed proves true what Jeremiah said at Jeremiah 10:23;
I well know, O Jehovah, that man's way does not belong to him. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.
Why doesn't God fix these problems? The suffering is too much, how long will it last?
Take note, the question raised by the devil in the garden of eden has not been answered, therefore if God interfere's by fixing the problem now, it goes to show that he supports Satan's rulership.
Exercise patience. Soon all Satan's challenge against the most high God will be answered. At that time, the rich blessings our God has in store for us will come to pass. All those whom we've lost in death will wake up (John 5:28,29) , no one will say I am sick. All the evil works of the devil will be completely destroyed.
Yes, we all are indeed grateful that our God has been patient with us so that we can come to know him and decide that we want him to be our Ruler.
When we acknowledge this fact, even when we suffer, our God will definitely help us endure.
Thank you all for your time.
Your well thought out comments are highly appreciated.
