Isaiah 2:1-4
The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be lifted up above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it, and many peoples shall come, and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” For out of Zion shall go the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.
Recently, I was asked to play at an anti-war concert in Asheville and began to think about writing a new song for the occasion. It hasn’t flowed out yet, but I remembered this passage of scripture which is one of hope. In processing this passage some years back, a couple of things stood out to me. First the writer says the “mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established.” The word in scripture that is translated, “established”, means incontrovertibly established…it cannot be changed. That to me is hopeful.
Also, The passage indicates that Nations will flow up to this mountain of the Lord. In the natural world, it would be very unusual for a stream to flow up. It would have to be pulled or pushed up. God is tugging us, pulling us up to Himself, and when we arrive, we will not learn “war anymore.” Revdocwelch
