The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. Luke 4:19 KJV
The subject of deliverance is a nagging issue in the body of Christ today. Too many problems; attacks here and there has increased the need for deliverance prayers by people. But what we have seen alongside is the fact that the people never seem to really get delivered. The same people become customers at the altar of deliverance time and time again, with the same problems persisting.
The reason these negative trend and cycles of failure in these areas have persisted is that many have not followed the pattern of our Lord Jesus as recorded in our reference text. Jesus first preached deliverance before praying deliverance. He preached the gospel of deliverance to the people first and ensure that the word becomes a seed in their minds. It is this seed that ensures the deliverance prayers to set the captives free before He set at liberty they that were bruised.
The truth is Jesus first delivered the mind with the word via preaching before He set them at liberty through prayer. If the mind is not affected, nothing else can be affected, and if the spirit of a man is not impacted, every effort to helping them will be futile. Things happen from inside out and not outside in.
