Is it bad to consume alcohol?
In many homes, alcoholic beverages are practically a staple food that is consumed at mealtime. In others they are forbidden, this difference may be due to various factors that influence people, such as culture and religion. There are cultures where alcohol and daily routine, such as Sake in Japan, or wine in France, or beer in Germany, countries where alcohol is seen as a vice, is rather a very old culture.
As Christians we should know about alcohol and what does the bible tell us about it?
The Word of God condemns drunkenness and excessive drinking, but not the moderate consumption of alcohol. Since time immemorial, the servants of God have consumed wine, a drink that is mentioned more than two hundred times in the Bible. This drink fosters a spirit of joy, it was served on festive occasions. It was precisely at a wedding where Jesus Christ performed his first miracle: turning water into wine.
"Wine is a mocker, intoxicating liquor is a troublemaker, and everyone who goes astray through it is not wise" (Proverbs 20: 1).
So let's understand something, alcohol is not bad or is a sin, because well the same Jesus took wine in a celebration, the bad is in the background that is given to the use of alcohol, and that this excess clouds the healthy judgment and the reason, that is why the use of alcohol should be moderated and not taken as a habit or habituated to it. (Personally I only drink alcohol at the end of the year meetings only for the toast of the dinner, for the rest I do not drink).
Hosea 4:11: "Wine and strong drink take away good judgment"
Negative effects of alcohol on our body.
In the brain, alcohol in excess inhibits the functions of the frontal region, so it decreases memory, ability to concentrate and self-control.- In the liver, the effects of this metabolism are nausea, vomiting and headache.
- In the skin, alcohol increases blood flow, so it presents more sweating.
- In the heart, the effects of alcohol cause an increase in cardiac activity and acceleration of the pulse. When alcohol reaches the blood, there is a decrease in the sugars present in the circulation, which causes a sensation of weakness and physical exhaustion.
- And in the spirit, it takes us away from the grace of God and leads us to spiritual death.
To say goodbye I leave a message, our body is the dwelling of the holy spirit and the temple of God, therefore we must keep it holy and try to be cautious in our actions, if you have to consume alcohol do it but with moderation but always remember that the Lord is seeing each one of our movements and knowing that it is the truth that our thoughts hide and what our hearts keep quiet. God bless you all and have a good day.
