Hello guys...today I'm chilling out and taking a day off on writing on my Series of Indigenous Stories. I have decided to spend some quality time with my daughters this weekend. For me, weekend is the time to unwind with the family and friends, and be grateful all over again.
I've attended my daughter's school event today which is the Fund Raising and Family Day for the school's new building fund. Most fundraising events in public schools are coordinated by committees of the Parents and Teacher Association. I could see there were many supporting parents stepped in to join this annual event. As parents, we usually do a wonderful job of helping to meet the schools’ needs by going above and beyond what is asked of them.
There were many parents turned up as early in the morning to support this event. Ideally, fundraising events should encourage kids and families to work together for a common goal. My daughter's school is one of many local schools here that has an example of a unique and diverse community with many highly educated, creative people who would welcome the opportunity to help schools if approached.
As off today's event, I was also fortunate to meet an old friend there and managed to catch up on old stories among others. Honestly, because of my hectic schedules, I probably don’t walk the halls of schools every day, but that doesn’t mean that I don't interested in the schools event. I try really hard to spend as much quality time as I can with my little angels, especially on weekends whenever I’m not travelling.
As a former primary school teacher, I still feel that schools belong to everyone in the community. Just like the saying, it needs a village to educate one child. Most parents want to be 'there' for their kids until they are ready to find their own destiny’s. This is also one of the reasons keeping me in the education industry, is because of my kids. A good education is what I was fortunate to have enjoyed and I really believe that without it, life’s journey towards the realms of success becomes ever more difficult.
Anyway, I'm sharing some colourful photos that I took during the school event today. Hope you will enjoy it.
I might say that it was a successful event after all, even though the school's building fund is still far beyond the reach of the targeted amount. But I believe, by reaching out to the larger community, we can accomplish much more while asking for less. Who knows, we could do something with project in Steemit community soon? Fingers crossed!
May be some of you can see some similarities with that of your own experience. If you feel so, do drop me few comments below and stay tuned for my next posting. Cheers!
Love and light
