Strangely enough I seem to have escaped the monster we call ,jet lag’ having recently woke and its currently 7.19am on checkin day.
That’s the view from my room though the next one is probably better as it’s not looking directly into the sun.
It’s quite smoggy here and what you would expect from an Asian city.
The pills that provided for the trip seemed to have worked well as I feel good and ready to go.
After my fruitless efforts of trying to wake the dozing last night by ceaselessly banging on his door, I had to concede and get a bite to eat in the local cafe.
Talk about ‘billy-no-mates’, the beer was quite good though and for us westerners chips can be ordered alongside the Asian delights.
I was looking at every face going by me.
...’surely I’m not the first one here’...
Just as I’m ready to turn in the goblin comes out of the lift, exclaims he’s hungry and wants to go exploring outside in the dark.
The minute our feet are outside we have these guys offering us massages..
...’big girl, no boy massage you’...
I think we can figure that one out, though ‘big girl’ had me thinking for a few moments,
Besides a 7/11 there’s not a lot next to the hotel and so we were bundled into a tuk-tuk on the promise of a 40 Bhat ride to somewhere what has good food.
I was getting flashbacks of my Montego Bay episode and against my better judgement we were speeding down the streets of Bangkok avoiding other cars, bits of bad road and swerving around roadworks.
True to his word the driver brought us to a local restaurant where we indulged in more beer and a Thai red curry which was better than anything I have tasted in the UK.
The view was good too, riverside and pleasant. There were a few others western diners and all seemed to have arrived just like us.
Persuaded to jump in a Tuk-tuk. Maybe this is the business model here?
As for the hotel, it’s not in the best area but it’s big and spacious.
The rooms are enormous. I chose next to the cheapest one and compares to their European counterparts it’s almost twice as big.
It’s 8am now. Writing takes some time. I think I’m going to like it here.
Will catch up with you all soon. Hope there’s someone in the breakfast room that I recognise.
