It's time for another Look What I Found! curation post, and as always I like to combine it with my entry for 's Pay It Forward Curation Contest. This week the topis is completely open, that is we do not need to focus on any particular tribe. That sounds okay, but so much freedom can feel a bit restrictive... What am I going to look for???
Steemfest Is On!
After going back and forth between ideas, tossing each one for not being ideally ideal, I realized one thing: Over on the other side of the globe in Bangkok a bunch of Steemians are getting together for a big meet-up. I never considered going, but seeing so many posts from people that I know (only from posting and commenting of course) hanging out with many other people that I know (in the same way), makes me want to look at Steemfest specific posts for today's curation.
Good Luck Finding a Steemfest Attendee With A Reputation of 65 or Less!
These fellow steemians are the serious ones. They don't mind traveling for a good conference, because they most likely have a bunch of irons in the fire, which they want to discuss in person with other movers and shakers of their caliber. So I will not even try my usual approach of trying to curate the undervalued posts by less appreciated authors. Sorry! Though it may disqualify me from 's contest, I'll try to give a well rounded summary of Steemfest so far, based on these well rewarded articles, posted by highly reputed bloggers.
Friends Meeting Friends
I guess the most exciting part for me is seeing people that I've interacted with online meet other online buddies of mine. The German in me feels very reluctant to call someone a friend that I've never even met in real life, let alone don't know their real name. But seeing a face I know from tribe or community appear in a photo posted by someone from a whole different area, makes me feel like I am also participating, at least a little bit.
Take for example, the famous steemian from Mexico. I started following him back when he posted about his hitching adventures in Central America, before he went to the two previous Steemfests in Lisbon and Krakow. We talked about meeting up in person here in Mexico, but it never happened. Now, I can see him in this post by

I know as a fellow passenger from the

conductor
did not go to Steemfest, a good friend of his
did! All these folks were hanging out with a bunch of other faces I was not familiar with... until I started looking through the Steemfest related posts. Inadvertently, I feel like I know (okay, let's say recognize) people such as
,
, and
, even though I haven't even interacted with any of them yet.
And then there is my buddy , a dude I connected with over bicycles and cycle touring... at first, before many other topics came up too. It's just as exciting seeing him appear in this post by
drinking lemongrass tea, or riding a motorcycle taxi with
in this post.
Tuk-tuks, boats, and night markets
Quite understandably, a major part of the Steemfest experience (or rather Bangkok experience) are the means of transport. Here shares his impressions of boat rides and tuk-tuks. Also
made a nice post illustrating Bangkok in general, with lots of food, market, and cityscapes. The public transportation of Bangkok had also an impression on
, as it can be seen in her video.
What About the Nitty Gritty?
Okay, many readers may be ready to point out: Steemfest is not so much about elephants of bowling competitions (though they can be fun too), but primarily about the conference. True to that. So I would feel horrible finishing this post without even hinting that there may have been interesting information shared.
On the other hand, I don't want to give a digest of a digest. Those of you who are interested will no doubt get to the source of the info. Instead, let me send you off in a direction, for example by highlighting this post and this post by . Didn't I say I wanted to avoid posting a digest of a digest? Right. So I guess the best bet is to cut straight to the source: In this post
is offering a video of each day of the conference.
