Ewedu which is known as corchorus in English, is the most common draw soup in Yórúbà land due to the fact that it grows in all seasons, and it requires no special planting technique.
I will like teach you how to prepare delicious ewedu soup, this post will be useful to Yorubas or anyone that lives in Southwest, Nigeria. Even if you a Yoruba descendant living in other parts of the world, this is a soup that shows your identity, it can remind you of your ancestors, the ancestral food.
I don't want to go into history and biology of this leave, but you can dig more on it. I want this tutorial to be as short and comprehensible as possible.
Here we go
Step 1
Buy ewedu from the market, #50 (equivalent of 0.1SBD) will buy ewedu which will be enough for family of four members.
Step 2
Remove the leave with care. You can use any approach to remove it, but the bottom line is that you should remove only leaves.
Step 3
Prepare the water, 10cl is okay for #50 worth of ewedu. But then, you can add a little more water if you don't want it to be thick. But I like which draw soup.
Step 4
Add 10g of Iru (locust beans) or it depends on how much you enjoy eating it. Iru will add nice flavour and odour to you soup. It is natural seasoning and rich in protein.
Add 1-2g of kaun (potash), it serves as catalyst that soften the leaves faster. Some people do not use potash, it is not compulsory, but it will take longer time for the leaves to become soft.
Step 5
Boil the water
Step 6
Wash the leaves to rid it of particles and stones. You it has passed through many stages from farm to your house.
Step 7
Pour rinsed leaves into boiled water
Step 8
Continue to stir to ensure that all leaves get soften almost at the same time.
Step 9
Add crayfish and a pinch of salt.
Step 10
Bring out your smashing broom, then rinse it to remove dust.
Step 11
Drop the soup from your stove after 5 minutes and smash it with your broom. Continue to smash until you are okay with your soup texture. The finer the texture, the more sexy it will appear.
Step 12
Rinse your smashing broomsticks and keep it.
Step 13
Serve you soup and add stew, fish or meat
Step 14
Enjoy your meal
Bon appetite!!!
