This is a very heartwarming spoken poetry delivered by Akeelah a Grade 5 student, she's a very close friend of my daughter . This video was originally posted by their Teacher Ma'am Edz on facebook and became trending that it got 1M plus views in 2days here's the facebook Link. This video is giving good vibes to OFW(Overseas Filipino Worker)'s around the world.
Akeelah's father Michael is working as an OFW in another country for 2 years now. She shared with her classmates the hardships that OFWs are experiencing just to provide for their family and how she missed her father so much.
OFW,minsan ang tingin ng iba sa kanila masaya, dahil palagi silang masaya sa haap ng maraming tao at lalong lalo na sa harap ng kanilang pamilya kapag kausap sa social media. (We often see that OFWs show a happy face to their family and friends especially in social media.)
Pero di natin naisip na sa kanilang masasayang mukha may akibat itong sakit, hirap at pangungulila. (But despite their happy faces they are suffering from hardships and loneliness.)
The video will make you cry your heart out. A lot of OFWs who have watched the video were touched. This is the reality and the fact that they have to leave the country to provide for their family is very painful indeed. The days, months and years that they can't physically see, embrace and kiss their loved ones is very, very hard.
Social media has played a lot of help in the communication of OFWs now, however, Akeelah is correct when she said that the OFWs will always show you that they're in good condition and that they're OK all the time, they won't let their family know that they're in pain because it will only cause them to worry. It is very important that we always, always communicate with them. A simple "how are you?" "take care" and "I love you" will brighten up their day.
Akeelah was crying in the middle of her piece, this will also make you cry. Every , every pain, every longingness, every love will surely be felt!
Whether they are working overseas or not, we should always value our parents who are working to provide a good education for their children and other needs for the family. They need love, understanding and constant communication to lighten the load that they have.
