Hunter's comment
The flexibility of this classic zoom lens makes this a must for photojournalists and enthusiasts who photograph a wide range of subjects from close up portaits to sports.
Here are some points to consider:
Optics
With five ultra-low dispersion (UD) elements included in the design of the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM, chromatic aberration is kept to a minimum throughout the zoom range, producing high contrast images with good edge-to-edge definition.
Chromatic Aberration (CA) is the result of different light wavelengths travelling through a medium other than vacuum at different speeds. In of photographic lenses, the result is color fringes at the edge of subjects, also known as axial chromatic aberration.
Rugged Body
Canon used magnesium alloy for the barrel of the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens and added strength with a small 20-gram weight gain over the old model (1490g vs. 1470g).
Image Stabilization
The EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM provides compensation for camera shake for shutter speeds up to four steps slower than 1/focal length, a one stop improvement over the old lens.
Minimum Focusing Distance
The closest focusing distance is now 1.2 m, down from 1.4 m for the old lens. This allows photographers to shoot subjects in crowded situations without swapping lenses.
Full Frame Cameras
The EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM is best suited to Canon’s non-pro and professional range of full frame digital SLR camera bodies.
