Hunter's comment
For web developers, it takes times and hard work to build websites/ web app. However, with the increasing demand for websites' security, developers/companies have to pay hundreds of dollars to SSL/TLS certificates providers in order to be HTTPS secured.
Although this helps to build a better web environment, it increased the barriers and burden for junior developers to create their app.
Some founded a non-profit service which provides free SSL/TLS certificates for developers to enable HTTPS for webs. Great initiative.
Let’s Encrypt is a free, automated, and open Certificate Authority.
The cool parts about Let's Encrypt:
- Free: Let anyone with a domain name obtain a trusted certificate at zero cost.
- Automatic: Softwares on the server can securely and automatically to get a renewal with proper config.
- Secure: It helps site operators properly secure their servers.
- Transparent: All certificate data is publicly recorded for inspection.
- Open: published as an open standard
