HiPrecious is possibly the biggest experiment in artificially creating value via scarcity that I've seen so far.
Instead of specializing in one arena or art style, they're specializing in everything... collect cat cards, night monsters, China heritage, geek prophets and pretty much anything you can dream up... the name of the game is scarcity as some of their cards are literally one of a kind, while others may only have 3 or 4 versions out in the world.
The secret to these sorts of collectibles; ones that don't impact a game that you're enjoying, is in the perceived value. Sure owning the only 'Sarcatstic' ERC721 token in the whole world might be exciting, but there is nothing stopping anyone creating a similar or better digital asset in the future. There has to be a reason for people to collect these... no one is going to collect and pay a whole lot of money (the Sarcatstic card is being auction for $190USD).
Are these cards currently at amazing bargain prices and if you hold you could buy a house with one later, maybe? Are they completely worthless, maybe? It's fascinating to watch and while I'm not going to gamble myself, I'll definitely have to revisit in a year or two to see if I made the right call.
