In Steemit we have: Home, new, hot, trending, and promoted. That is not enough
I believe that the organisation features for finding posts on the steem blockchain through steemit.com are not enough. They leave a wide gap in coverage of posts. Home shows you people you are subscribed to, new shows what has just been posted, hot shows what has been upvoted recently, and trending shows you the most popular posts.
The Gap
I believe this leaves a gap in the coverage of posts that are still good but: Are not made by accounts with high amounts of subscribes/bots and not caught in the flood of new posts and immediately upvoted by a large account. Even if the post makes a few dollars and gets a few views, it will not get very far unless it gets a whole bunch of rewards in a short period of time. (Which for an account that is not popular, can only come from a whale.)
EDIT: Another problem I have thought of is that posts tend to "die" quickly. After the first day or so posts tend to just drop off and receive little to no new upvotes.
Collective
Authors should not get rewards, the posts should. This means that even if a post is not super-popular it should get a chance at life.
Collective is a feature on many other social media platforms, and we should have something similair too. Collective throws together a bunch of posts from all over, although it is not completely random. The higher view to like ratio, the more often a post will be shown. In other platforms this helps smaller posts get big quickly. This would help Steemit because it helps put more emphasis on quality instead of popularity.
Currently one thing hindering mass adoption of the platform is the massive circle jerk of large users and curation rewards. A popular author is basically guaranteed upvotes, which leads to whales and bots upvoting them for curation, which leads to more popularity and more whales. This only makes it harder for new users to get a foothold on the platform, driving people away.
Well that’s my solution to a problem I perceive on the Steemit Platform. It could function just like the tabs we have now, and in the future customisation would be nice. I would like more options to choose what mess of posts to look through.
