I often get asked "will cracking my fingers give me arthritis?" or is it "safe to do every day?"
So i thought I would share my insight with the steemit community :)
Dr. Ronald Unger spent 60 years of his life 'cracking' only the fingers of his left hand despite everything his mother told him and left the right hand 'uncracked'. After 60 years he x-rayed both hands and found that there was NO DIFFERENCE in the amount of arthritis in the left hand compared to the right hand. I understand this is only one individual but many researchers are now backing his findings.
Experiments and research done by the University of Alberta and California have agreed with Dr. Ronald Unger. Both Universities found in their research that there was:
1. NO immediate swelling or damage of the 'cracked' joints
2. NO visible differences between the hands of persistent knuckle crackers and those who had never cracked their knuckles
So what is the cracking noise?
This is a topic that the scientists still struggle to agree upon. However the majority say that cracking sound comes from a bubble popping in the joint while the rest say the noise comes from the bubble being created in the joint.
So in conclusion, If you are an avid knuckle cracker the research says you got nothing to worry about, enjoy :)
