Hey guys i am up with some science stuff again do read,
Gas Cutting
Oxyfuel or oxyacetylene gas cutting is the most commonly used and convenient method for cutting of metals.
The working principle in which it is based is that oxygen has a strong affinity for iron and steel at high temperature (770 to 870 degrees Celsius).
Advantages:-
At high temperature oxygen will form iron oxide with iron which has a low melting temperature.
Hence, if steel is initially heated to a red color and then a jet of pure oxygen is blown on the surface, suddenly the steel is burned in an iron oxide which looks like slage which falls down and steel is cut.
Applications:-
- Cast iron and steel can be cut using this method.
- The maximum thickness that can be cut by this method depends on the type of gas you are using.
- The torch for flame cutting has several holes for reheating the steel to a red color.
