Last summer I learned about Steemit as our family prepared to drive across the country in the Bitcoin.com Bus on a crypto-only tour designed to empower and teach others how to use crypto currencies in their daily lives. We distributed Dash and Bitcoin at every stop we made, and talked to thousands of people about crypto currencies on our journey.

I got to know the Steemit community in bits and pieces over the course of my first 8 or 9 months involved on the website. I even gave a few talks about Steemit to as we traveled the country, and again while we were settled back down into Austin.
Redefining My Online Presence
Recently I began to reassess the way I spend my time and how I run my businesses - I came to the conclusion that we were (and are) too centralized around, and dependent on, Facebook. This goes for our online kratom/CBD/health store Brave Botanicals and our viral homesteading blog The Homestead.Guru
I don't want to give my energy and time to networks that function out of alignment with my core values and ethics. I love the way Steemit empowers its community in such tangible ways. Steemit allows you to support your friends with digital assets than can be turned into real life experiences or goods. It allows one to create a monetized voice online without having to give your Soul away to Facebook, and to support your friends in a way that directly impacts their lives.
So, as a celebrate my one year on Steemit, I find myself inspired to focus more time and energy here, in order to help build the alternative infrastructure that will replace the crumbling Empire. Time to focus on Giving and Growing. May we all find abundance!
