Many newer (or older) users may not be fully aware of VP or voting power and useful parameters for it. You can check your VP over at http://steem.cool/@yourusername. Very easy to use and created by . Simply input your user name like I did in the above graphic and hit enter. Which will give you your current voting power percentage.
I try not to run mine <68%. Some sources will tell you don't run it below 75%. That number is gonna be somewhat opinion based.
However, if you run your VP% too low you may have bandwidth issues. Conversely, if yours is ALWAYS 98++%, you probably aren't doing much for your fellow steemians in terms of curation.
I have 143 people I follow right now. With >500 steem power (sp), I do have access to the almighty slider. For me I can give the majority 5-15% (more dependent on content.) I can do this 2-3x a week for most people on my list and some not on it (always finding new steemians to follow.)
I manually curate so it takes longer. My hope in this post is to help people understand why utilizing your voting power is very important.
Ain't got time for that? Fair enough! Consider delegating your VP to someone who is online more than you. That power needs used! Or, you can do auto voting which I am not entirely sure how it works. I do not opt for autovote at this time because I want to physically see what I am upvoting & because often times I want to comment.
Besides benefitting other steemians, you gain a passive income for yourself as well via curation rewards. Help others & help yourself, what a combo!
