In Africa tobacco is the most consumable stimulant in 80s, most of our forefather have tobacco farm and they produced high quantity of tobacco. let me brief you something before I proceed, there was a man in my community, whose business is consumption of tobacco, he consumes a lot and when he was 45years, he developed liver problem, and he could not walk at the age of 60 years, he's alive today but he can't do anything again, his family used to carry him, whenever he wants to do something. tobacco contain more than fifty chemicals. let me focus in underdeveloped countries, most cigarette contain high content in tar and nicotine that courses physical and psychological dependency. smoking is the risk factor for heart attacks, cancers, high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis and so on,
HEALTH EFFECTS OF TOBACCO
- cancer: tobacco is the major risk of cancer, tobacco usage include many forms of cancer such as lung cancer, skin cancer, colon cancer, cervical cancer, just to mention few. most of these cancers are major high mortality rate across the globe. to measure in my area in Lagos, I do go to hospital for research and it came to my understanding that cancer is epidemic in my region, most of these people range from 25 years and above.
- psychological trauma: this effect is also common in my area, I have seen young boys in my area after they smoked and what it caused, some of them dropped out of school, depression and so on. according to my research among adult, smoking reduced stress level and ginger their moral, they believed that smoking make them feel relax, agile, be able to work very well and reduced tension.
- cognitive function: tobacco also caused cognitive dysfunction. it makes your cerebral cortex weak and brain shrinkage (cerebral atrophy), also increased risk of Alzheimer's disease, also contribute to demential and cognitive decline.
