When I try to explain to my friends that there is this revolutionary social media called Steemit, where you can literally earn money posting stuff just like on Facebook. They always have this awkward expression on they faces, like if I just told them that I saw a gorilla doing ballet.
They usually react by telling me that I don't have to believe everything I read on the internet. After what I tell them: "This is real shit guys, it was hard to believe at the beginning but I am officially a Steemian now". This is where they start to laugh at me, because in french "Steemian" sounds more like a tribe's name from Mars. Keep in mind that they are totally ignoring about the cryptocurrency world and the decentralized system concept. So I do my best to explain how Steemit works and how I earn money posting, commenting and even upvoting others posts just like on Facebook. But my friends automatically reject the idea of doing money by just writing post. Of course they immediately ask where the money comes from.
My job at this point is to try to be as clear as I can explaining the basics of the cryptocurrencies. Once they quite get it, they can't even believe this social media concept. Since I read some books about psychology and how people tend to think based on their habits. I came up with the conclusion that the problem is not the technology but how they interpret it. For most people, posting on social media have nothing to do with some kind of work. But they are wrong since Facebook is making a bunch of money. Because some of my friends share really good content on those traditional social media for free and they stick to it just because they used to it. So to summerise this post, I would say that some people are not ready yet, some people are followers waiting to be lead. For all the Steemians out there, you can be proud of yourself to be open minded and to don't be afraid about changes. I can't wait to see Steemit to be the best social media ever created !
