I had to post this up real quick, because of something I just noticed. I don't think it's a major problem but all newbies really need to take note of this when upvoting and curating other peoples posts.
Today I got my first flag
I don't honestly believe that the person had intended to do this, what happened was they saw one of my videos on Dtube and hit the thumbs down button. This in turn has put a flag on my account, now this won't cause too much damage because the user has a low reputation score, but never the less, the thumbs down button to someone new gives the indication like youtube if they don't like something to hit that thumbs down.
But the results are completely different.
Flagging is there for a reason!! Some people say it should not be there at all because when the platform is decentralized like it is now, there is no regulation about what can and cannot be posted.
Common sense however tells us what we should and should not post.
For example things I might flag for would be.
- Paedophilia
- Human Trafficking.
- Illegal selling of drugs.
- Illegal selling of firearms.
- Fraud
These are serious issues, which have no place on the internet, thats one of the reasons the Dark Web is in existence today. Anyone posting on this sort of platform would be crazy to do such a thing.
In turn I appeal to to consider changing the thumbs down to a flag, so that it does not give the impression it is a harmless tool.
As the platform grows and more new people join who do not know how to use it correctly, not only could be causing damage to other users, but damage to their own accounts without even realising it.
So in conclusion.
Before hitting that thumbs down think of the user, think of all the work they are producing don't damage their entire reputation because of one post.
To save yourself from damaging you own reputation check out who are there to keep the platform safe and enjoyable for all of us.
I wear my flag with honour because it gave me the need to write this post, if I can inform just a few people about how this works, then maybe I am doing my little bit for the community.
