There's a good and provocative post about why Synereo WildSpark could become a Steemit killer. And here's why it cannot.
What's that?
Unfortunately, I didn't get a beta access, but there's a demo about how the Chrome extension will work:
So what we see here is a way to tip youtube vloggers and maybe in future authors of any blog and site. Apart from Chrome extension, there will be a site which will duplicate the extension (to make it possible to be used not only from Chrome and desktop) containing the links to the content. A part of author's revenue is shared with people who are promoting the video by sharing the links (kind of referral system).
Why we need that?
While it can be useful for authors to gain additional revenue for there content, there's nothing new here (at least yet). What's the difference of asking users to send tips via WildSpark extension or any alt wallet? It's the same learning curve to buy alts and install the wallet. There are already plenty of services for sending tips for platforms like twitch, using which you can get tips for youtube videos as well. Not to mention that Synero is using bitcoin blockchain (Omni protocol) which is slow and expensive for sending tips.
How it's similar to Steemit?
On WildSpark you'll spend instead of earning money for supporting authors. The implementation could be great and it would be useful for authors, but it's not so practical as explained above.
So is there a Steemit Killer?
Synero is way different to be compared to Steem, though it would be great to see some real competition as it helps progress. Creating content just for getting tips isn't any way better than for just getting votes. If you do it for the community, here's already a well formed one. What matters is the community to share your thoughts.
