Hello everyone
Today I reached 250 SP, a little mile stone in my Steemit journey. It may not seem like much to some of you ,but it has been a slog. I looked up my ranking for the first time today and realized what others have said in the past. We are attracting the wrong type of person to the platform. It looks like the numbers are fine for sign ups but the retention levels are rather dismal. This is still in Beta so no panic just yet as we head towards mainstream one day.
When I joined I was number 828 518 and was worried I had missed the boat yet again. When I looked up my ranking this morning I was a little stunned to see little me sitting at 15 243. That is in less than 6 months and by the end of the month would have risen some more. I didn't include my delegation into the SP as that has been lent to me from some generous Steemians.
There are 60 000 active accounts currently (grapevine) give or take so I see myself in the top 25% realistically. I have a 1c vote value so that means there are 45 000 accounts with less voting value. That is not great but also not the end of the world as they are active and hopefully will grow into something of value.
When you put the figures into perspective like that then you can see when you get 50 votes and the payouts are slim pickings. I am not complaining and appreciate everything and everyone on here ,but it makes more sense now. The longer you are on here, the more comfortable you become and that also helps you understand what is happening.
The launch of SMT's will have a huge impact and with an easier signing on period with the new hard fork there is quite a bit of work to be done still. i for one will look out for any new users struggling and encourage them as much as possible as retention is the key.
Happy Steeming and power up.
