The Steem Education Initiative (SEI) is happy to announce that our first training session got an amazing response and we were overwhelmed to see the support of the Steem / Steemit community.
With that in mind, we would like to show our supporters the progress we have made in our 2nd training session. We felt that overall it was a huge success and students learned many new skills that will help them become better Steemians!
Road Map of Traning Session
In 2nd training session, I have included following topics to be covered.
- Starting a Post
- Sections needed in a good post
- Categories to choose for posting
- Basic Formatting Tools
- Useful Resources for creating a Post
- How to use Grammarly.com to improve writing quality.
- Do's and Don'ts in interaction with the Steemit Community
- Better Posts = Better Rewards
Starting a Post
In this section, students were told how to start writing a post after logging in steemit account.
Sections needed in a good post
In this part, students were given briefing on different sections needed in a good post and what they have to do in each part.
Categories to Choose for Posting
After the first training, I got a lot of questions from students about what topics they should post about. So, in this part of training they were told about different categories they should think about posting in.
Basic Formatting Tools
This is the most important thing these students were in need of because early posts made by students were lacking the basic formatting. So, they were given detailed explanation on how to use these asic formatting tools to make their post good looking.
- Giving headings
- Changing the size of text
- Making fonts bold or italic
- Adding bullets to parts of posts
- Adding images to post
- Breaking posts into parts
Useful Resources for Making Posts Better
This part of the training was given special emphasis. Students were told where they could source images for their posts. It was explained that all parts of a post need to be properly sourced. This means creating a source section at the bottom of the post and stating where information came from in order to write it and proper sourcing of images below that.
Hackmd was introduced to students so that they can write their posts in it and submit to SEI. We will help them by making a few edits and this will serve as a platform to screen initial post drafts and it is our hope it will result in better content on steemit.
What is Grammarly
This is a free tool that is used to check write-up for grammer errors. It gives you suggestion on rectifying your errors in post. As these local students have no background of English Medium schools, so this tool will help them a lot to make their post error free.
Using Grammarly for a Better Write-Up
Grammarly is very simple to use and students were taught how to use it.
Interaction with the Steemit Community
I got lots of questions from students who wanted to know how they can get more exposure and increase their following. I tried to teach them about how to interact with other Steemians. The idea is simple and that is to browse posts of others in different categories and make conversation with them by commenting on their posts and asking them questions.
Final Words
At the end, the training topics were summurized and students were given the concept of "Better post - Better Rewards"
Your rewards will increase with better posts
SEI will reward those who focus on quality and follow the standards laid out in training.
SEI is planning to offer Weekly Rewards (More Value)
The Steemit Community will reward bigger upvotes for better posts.
With a strong focus on quality reputation & rewards will increase
Refreshment
After this great training session, it was necessary to entertain these kids with some refreshment. I am grateful to Mr. Shajeel Afzal a local trainer/freelancer for sponsoring this refreshment.
We Need the Steem Community's Support!
The SEI was founded with good intentions and a vision to empower students. If we can even change life of a single student, it will be equal to changing the life of an entire family. It is our goal to improve our methods working in Pakistan and then extend into other developing countries. If you like our efforts, we would love to see your support and appreciation. We want SEI to grow and break barriers not just in Pakistan but in all parts of the World.
You can extend your support in any form
