After 83 days of joining Steemit, I reached the legendary milestone of...
ONE THOUSAND AND ONE FOLLOWERS!
When I woke up this morning, I thought I was living a tale from the One Thousand and One Nights (Arabian Nights). I pinched myself to realize how my journey on Steemit has been plentiful and wonderful. Steemit being my first ever (and only, because I chose to) social platform, I had no idea where to start, what to do, what to write about. I was lucky to have stumbled upon the project, only a few days after I joined the Steemit.Chat and met one guy called
(he's the first person from Steemit that I chatted with!). He recruited me and helped me get started with the MSP, where I met another open-hearted dude called
. Back in June 2017, the project was just in its infancy. The rest is history; the community is over 5000 users and is growing everyday. Being of a sociable nature, I continued to mingle with the people, chatting and meeting knew ones.
Learning the Ropes
Slowly but surely, I started to build my followers base. No, not with follow for follow or vote for vote, but by tying meaningful relationships and true networking. I didn't pretend to be Satoshi Nakamoto so people would flock after my hidden bitcoins, I didn't pretend to be Donald Trump to win the hearts of the people with my golden hair, I didn't pretend to be an alien who mastered anti-gravity with the power to fold space that ventures my followers into new galaxies! I was just being me, a Jolly Pirate with a cutlass in his hand, navigating the blue Steemit waters, while time was taking its toll on his teeth.
My Witness Experience
After writing a few successful posts, I moved on to my next contribution to the Steem community by becoming a witness. Being a techie at heart, I thought it would be the next step for me. It was an opportunity to meet new people, learn more about the platform and get a deeper involvement. It's an arduous path where I was blessed with some wonderful witnesses who helped and guided me through this process, in particular and
. These two are my favorite witnesses, please support them if you got a spare vote. That doesn't mean the rest of the witnesses are bad or anything, on the contrary, they all contribute to the platform with their ways and resources, I vote for many of them already. However, I can honestly say that those two are at the top of my list because I interact with them very often, which gives me a greater appreciation of what they do. That's why I believe witnesses should interact with their peers and the users to make their work known and earn those precious votes. Currently I'm ranked 47 on the witness ladder, which is a great achievement for me.
The Power of Generosity
A couple weeks ago, had a full show dedicated to generosity, on the MSPWaves Radio Show. The people who know me are aware of my generosity. Generosity is the most powerful thing you can offer to the world. Being born and raised a Christian, I was taught several key values at school and through life: forgiveness, selflessness, sacrifice, love. Those values are not exclusive to Christianity. As I grew up and learned about other cultures and religions, I realized the universal character of what I was taught. Whether you're a believer or an atheist, caring for others always pays, not with money, but with gratitude and mutual respect. Gratitude was another focus of
in his shows. Thus, by being generous to the community with my time, knowledge and dedication, Steemit graced me back with success and the blessings of friendships. I'd like to underline that
has a beautiful soul, he's very engaged with the MSP audience. Check him out, he too started witnessing not long ago. And yes, I helped him set up his server 🤓
The Secret to Success
There's no hidden secret for success. Be yourself, don't plagiarize, write your own content, work hard, be patient, never give up. That's what blogging is about. Be engaged with the community and your followers.
Focus on the present, avoid some common mistakes and before you know it, you'll be propelled into a bright future.
