A lot of Steemians are sure that Steemit will be more popular than Facebook. I am not. Steemit has huge potential, but also some things that hold it back.
Here's 2 reasons why I'm not convinced:
Facebook is "all consuming"
- By this I mean that FB has successfully managed to become a huge part of almost every aspect of peoples lives. Not only can you read about your friends, but you "have to" have a FB-account if you are want to be included. Are you a part of a choir, a sports team, work as a voluntary or whatever? Well, then there's probably a facebook group there, where you get information about the next meet up etc. Do you have kids at school or in kidergarten? Then there's probably a parents discussion group for that as well. Events are also posted on Facebook, for you to click if you are attending or not.
If Steemit is supposed to be a serious contender to this, it would have to make some similar solutions for this, or else it will forever stay in the shadow og the mighty FB. Adding 5 tags to a post will not get it there.
People still don't understand it
- Hell, I still don't fully understand it. How do you get paid to post something? Where does the money come from? For the "average joe" who is not into all the technological jumbo mumbo, then blockchain and is too abstract to understand. Most people are sceptical to things they don't understand. It's not until you see a LOT of money that folks will jump on the train even though they don't understand it. Just look at Bitcoin.
