We don't have to agree on everything. That's what makes each of us so special. When more people are involved with something, you get more different opinions, attitudes and actions that confront each other. That's why is always so hard to reach some common good.
So you found yourself on Steemit, reading new posts every day, noticing different opinions from different people.
The most of us do not know the people we're dealing with on this network. And I am sure that on Steemit you can find some posts that you may like, but you don't agree with them. Or you've been following someone since forever and now that person made a post that you didn't expect... Some part of her or his worldview just bothered you, so you feel disappointed in the way of thinking of that author you've been following.
But you upvote that person every day and now you're thinking about what to do:
- You can upvote that author's post as every day without even bothering about the content.
- You can just skip upvoting and act like nothing happened.
- If you find the post inappropriate, you can go so far to flag the author to warn the others.
- You can write a long comment, possibly longer than a post itself, explaining your own opinion about the subject.
In the most cases I choose OPTION 2, but when I really think that somebody had a bad day, than I go with OPTION 1.
OPTION 3 is not my choice in these things, we all know what are the flags for. In few cases, I chose OPTION 4 and wrote a long comment for few times, but always failed to convince the author to change her or his mind.
OPTION 1
You can upvote that author's post as every day without even bothering about the content.
This is what the most of us do every day. We all have some users that we upvote unconditionally every day. Then you are more than just a Steemit follower, you are a friend. And it's all great, but... that's one of the reasons why you can find a lot of great rewarded posts with low quality or weird content. And that's also why many people get the same rewards every day.
So being a friend is great but it can be kinda bad for the platform's biggest point: to reward the quality and original content.
OPTION 2
You can just skip upvoting and act like nothing happened.
I am strictly manual upvoter so I can allow myself to make a mistake or two early in the mornings while scrolling trough my feed, checking what was going on while I was sleeping, and then I miss to give you my upvote. It's maybe by mistake but maybe I just left without saying hello because something you said was wrong and I just can't support it, I am sorry.
This is my favorite option, but in the reality, I don't have so much time to be whole in OPTION 2! Many of us actually don't. OPTION 2 requires reading of each and every post in your feed and if you have a proper feed with 150+ people there, it's impossible thing to do in 24 hours.
OPTION 3
If you find the post inappropriate, you can go so far to flag the author to warn the others.
Do not hesitate to flag if you find some plagiarism, over-rewarded trash or inappropriate content! I am glad to see that people really do warn the others about bad posting but sadly, I also see many stupid flags because of jealousy, revenge and because of different opinions!
Different opinions don't deserve flags but spreading false facts do!
OPTION 4
You can write a long comment, possibly longer than a post itself, explaining your own opinion about the subject.
It is good to be eager to say your own opinion about the subject, especially if it is different than author's opinion. Otherwise, the comment would look like shitty spam "great post, dear, thanks for sharing". But this time you decided to be detailed and try to convince the author that he is wrong. I don't say this is a bad or wrong way, I don't say that's the best way neither. But since it's her or his post and you just comment there, be sure that you won't accomplish what you want. People on the network are stubborn and I see big egos wherever I point my mouse. And many times, different opinions were causes of ugly network fights. And you don't want to be a part of some war on Steemit. Be sure that the author won't accept your longest comment well. And remember, you don't know whom you dealing with.
People can be very subjective about what are opinions and what are facts.
People are also very subjective about the truth. Not just on Steemit, people are sam everywhere! And it is OK to have a different opinion than others but still be their friend!
I am very happy to meet different people with different viewpoints and accept and tolerate their advantages and disadvantages. So why is that so hard on the network?
