I believe that you all know what is spotlight but let's repeat the definition "a lamp projecting a narrow, intense beam of light directly onto a place or person, especially a performer on stage."So these spotlights are used especially when a performer on stage in order to draw the audience's attention.Let's discuss the reason behind why this effect is called "Spotlight Effect".
OK,this effect suggests that people believe that many people notice them when they do something or when they are in some crowded place which basically is true.Let's get more deep in detail and see the reason behind.İt is because everyone is in the center of their own world and this what I also noticed in myself as well but the thing is every person is in the center of their own world so they have their own life,their own concerns,their own happiness-es and etc.So having this spotlight effect is useless at all but this is in human nature as well.Before I end my post I want to share one of my experiences with you all;Whenever I wear something which I believe doesn't fit me well.I feel that everyone is looking at me and criticizing the way .
In conclusion,almost everyone has this feeling inside them;this is not a sickness;this is basically a part of human nature:)
