I have started my Steemit journey about 5 months ago. Being a newbie, I consider myself a noob. I know some basics but definitely clueless about the importance of Steem Power and the likes. I was able to read some blogpost discussing about it, yes I do, but it still confused me. I admit, I lack in effort to further study about it.
It was just recently that I've understand it fully with the help of some Steemian friends. It felt like being slapped with the truth and it's actually disturbing to know that I've let big opportunities slip away including the days when SBD hits more than $12 and Steem that time is still at $2 each. I could've invested in Steem power that time but I did not because I was so focused on cashing out since it was my first time to withdraw my earnings.
I know. I know.. We cannot bring back time and the only thing we can do is to move forward. And so I did - with much more determination this time. Earlier this year, I have set a goal to myself to invest in Steem Power moving forward. My main goal is to increase my SP to at least 500.
What is the Importance of Having Higher Steem Power?
- The more Steem Power a user holds, the higher their upvote weight will be. Therefore, the more they can influence the value of posts.
- Once you reach at least 500 Steem Power, you will have a vote slider which will appear when you vote. With this, you can adjust the weight of your vote which is proportional to the voting power. The benefit of this is that you'll be abe to control your voting power thus, letting you vote on more posts.
- If you believe that Steem will fly to the moon soon, then this is a good investment for you.
Before buying steem, I always wait for the right time until SBD becomes much much higher than the current value of Steem. That way, I still get more than what I've paid for. Here's a tutorial post on how you can buy Steem Power.

Fortunately, I was able to reach 500 Steem Power today after weeks of waiting. I have unlocked another milestone and this is just the beginning. 500 SP may be a small thing for others, but considering the efforts and hard work that I've done to achieve this made it special.
Baby steps or not, a progress is still a progress. And I ought to celebrate each of my achievements to further motivate myself and others too especially the newbies to do more and to work harder. If I was able to do it, then what makes you think that you can't?
As I always say, keep on Steeming and you'll soon reap the fruits of your labor. ❤
