I follow quite a limited bunch of people, and upvote mostly the same ones day in and day out, because I like them and they have content that interests me. When the crypto market keeps dropping, Steemit has been getting more quiet and I have to make more of an effort to find content to upvote. I have been thinking for a while already that I should spread my votes a little wider, but haven’t had the time to actively search for new people to follow. Today I finally decided to go deep inside Steemit and really look for something outside of my usual playground.
I’m gonna dive head first into the deep end, aka the New-section, gulp!
Let’s start by saying that I’m very picky and my standards are high. I’m trying to find people and content I haven’t yet seen before, and that entertain or educate me, in the fields I’m interested in.
Filter out languages I don’t understand, memes, TA’s, blatant plagiarism, posts with no photos, horrible grammar mistakes in the headline and in the first sentence, and of course subjects that do not interest me, like football.
I’ve been scrolling the New-section for about a half an hour without even opening a post…. but I’m not giving up, there must be something worth my read!
Meme meme plagiarism meme plagiarism plagiarism basic quote one bad picture with one line of text one good picture clearly stolen. I feel like there is 99% more posts that I want to flag, instead of upvote, but I’m not gonna waste my voting power for posts that are going to go unnoticed anyways.
Oh this seems like a good one, let’s open it up. Nice picture, good headline, travel and architecture related. For fucks sake, another Steepshot one liner, what a waste of time. More memes, more plagiarism, the list goes on. Finally one decent post, no surprise, from already an established Steemian. Scroll down an hour more to find another good post, once again, from already an established user who has been uploading consistently for over a year.
More spam, plagiarism and one liners. I’m done.
Conclusion
It’s very very very hard to find quality content!
People should shut the fuck up about not getting rewards and noticed when the posts they produce are absolute garbage, there is hardly anything that makes me even want to open a post, let alone to upvote and follow the person for more.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS MATTER! Headline, first sentence and the image are the most important things, especially when you are just starting out and don’t have a following yet.
It seems that I’ll mostly be sticking with the quality people/content I have already found in Steemit throughout the year, only every now and then adding a new person on the Follow list. Usually the new additions to my following-list come through people I’m already following, their friends or recommendations, or the new people that leave me comments and when I check back, I sometimes find something interesting.
