Here lies the True Minnow Challenge...

I have been reading a lot of posts from fellow minnows who are making suggestions about how to improve Steemit. Unfortunately, the primary purpose of all of these posts is to say how "Minnows aren't earning enough money from their posts! The whales have to do something about it to make posting on Steemit fair."

I will admit, it is definitely challenging to get the views and votes of the whales and dolphins, or even minnows a lot of the time. However, this platform wasn't built yesterday. Also, an important life lesson comes to mind: Life isn't Fair.

To all of my fellow Minnows:

Being new here, as I am as well, you missed out on all of the growing pains that the whales and dolphins had to go through in order to reach their status level. I can guarantee you that it didn't happen overnight.

It seems like most of your posts are missing out on the fact that Steemit never promised you riches and fame, that was probably the minnow who earned $100 on a single post and thought he was invincible and had the "secret sauce" recipe for success. To coin another phrase, "you have to earn your place at the table". Set your expectations in a realistic manner. Expecting that you'll be a whale within your first few months is simply setting yourself up for failure and disappointment.

Would it be nice for whales and dolphins to take a few minnows under their flippers? Of course. Is it a requirement for the community to keep growing? The hard truth is, Probably Not.

The inherent value in Steemit is posting original content and getting noticed for it. Will all of your amazing articles get noticed as much as you feel they should be recognized? Probably not. But at the same time, one (or many) of your "throw away" posts may earn you a lot more than you had expected.

It's a "long game", my fellow minnows. You have to be willing to invest your time and energy into making the platform a better place for others in order for you be successful. Now, this doesn't mean that you should go out there posting a million How-Tos about using Steemit (Please don't).

I am suggesting that you take a few deep breaths, and think about something that is important to you. Once you have that topic, ask yourself, is this something that I can write a captivating post about (let's say around a 100 words or more)? Yes? Write about it! You never know who might share your enthusiasm for that topic and give you some comments or up-votes. If not, I'm sure you can take another few deep breaths and come up with something!

I am a firm believer that the best way we will expand this community and be successful individually (and as a whole) is by posting about interesting topics and sharing that with the community/world!
