Are you feeling frustrated that your posts do not get enough attention because you feel you write very interesting posts and it should make at least $10? I can understand your frustration because I remember my first posts that just made a few cents and some a few euros. I made a post of a layer cake that took me 4 hours to make and I inserted a lot of images of the progress. Guess how much I made? $0.40! After that I quit for 8 months!!! Why I decided to continue with Steemit? Because I like to be my own boss and do what ever I like. I started again somewhere in April this year and tried a total different approach. This post is not just for beginners but also for people who are much longer on this Steemit platform and still struggling with their posts. Just read this post because I can give you some tips. ;-)
A catchy title
First, it is about the title. Think clear what title you are going to use. Make it interesting and make the title in a way that people want to click on your post and finally read it. Writing in XL letters will not guarantee your post will be read. I tried that couple of times, but there was no difference. Also make sure that the title matches the main picture and the post you are writing about. If you write something about hating people with different skin colour and hate towards certain religion(s), you will most likely not get noticed or get many upvotes. It's all about L-O-V-E here on Steemit. Keep your hate away from Steemit.
Show your face!!!
I can tell you that people remember faces better than names. Especially on Steemit there are soooo many people with (awkward) nicknames so it's just difficult to remember all those people by their names. Me myself remember people easily by their faces. I know you have to show your face when you introduce yourself. Showing your face more often as the main picture of your post, people will easily remember you and feel more interested in you. I can imagine if you're shy and don't like to make selfies all the time. I myself use to make selfies when I was young, before I got married and have kids. Nowadays I don't like to make selfies of myself, ONLY for Steemit. That's how big my love is for Steemit. ;-). The first time I made a picture of myself I was a bit scared and shy, but I told myself: Don't give a damn! There are some people, especially men( who do not get many upvotes and earn just a few cents) that say that pretty girls/women get more easily upvotes by whales. I have to disagree with that because I have seen many pretty women here on Steemit making a few cents, even after months being active on Steemit. On Steemit we value creativity, good content and lots of brains(not that you have to be Einstein).
Place yourself in the reader's chair
When you write, you write because YOU think it is interesting. But if you wonder why your posts don't get enough attention, you probably may place yourself in the reader's chair and judge your own post. Are you standing out enough in the crowd? Or are you writing the same kind of posts other people doing? Imitating popular Steemians is not a way to get noticed. There is a difference between imitating and getting inspiration from popular Steemians. If you imitate others, people will find out and see the similarities. Just try to be original, just try to be you.
Write in English
I can understand your love for your country and you want to write in your own language. If you write in two languages like English and another European language it is different than when you write in English in Indonesian. If you write in English and Indonesian and just make a few cents, I would stop writing in Indonesian and continue writing only in English and just focus on writing better English. I believe everyone should be able to understand English. The majority of the people here on the Steemit platform understand English. A language is easy to learn, you have Youtube, Google, and you have Steemit. I made once a post in three languages, English, Dutch and Indonesian to see if I would make more but it was sad, I just made a few dollars, all this writing.... So I found out that it has nothing to do in how many languages you write. English is #1 language.Don't say: I can not speak/write English, just say: I can not speak/write English YET, but I will work on that.
Mix of text and images
Some Steemians are of the opinion that you have to write a lot for your post to be seen as 'good content'. I have to disagree with that. I like a mix of text and images. For me it's kinda boring to read so much. As a creative person I like to look at pictures. But I understand we value good content, hard work, so I try to mix text and pictures. Nowadays I also make gifs as I think gifs can really boost my posts. Just download free apps where you can edit your videos.
Hang in there
What ever you do, hang in there! If a certain way is not working, try to find another way, try to write about something else. You also don't always have to write a blog. You can also make DIY posts like me ;-). I am actually better in DIY's than writing :-D. So if you feel you suck in writing, try to get out of your shell and use your creativity!
Conclusion
1 Choose a catchy title.
2 Use an interesting main/first picture with your face preferable for people to notice you. If you have a certain topic, just put a picture of yourself as a main picture and the title ON your picture. You can easily do it with free apps you can download. Free apps (that I use regularly) you can download to boost your posts are: Giphy, Photo Editor, Slideshow,Cinemagraph and VideoShow. Sometimes I use Photoshop HD, to remove stains for example that might ruin an image.
3 Judge your own post, do you think it is interesting enough? If you lack ideas, try DIY's because with DIY's you can go as wild as you want. :-)
4 Write in English. Majority understands only English and maybe another European language. If you can not write in English, start learning the language. English is a main language and used everywhere to communicate. Watch movies in English, read English books and write down words you don't know and translate them. Make a little book with words and the translation in your language. Just try writing in English even if you feel your English is not good. You show people that you try your best. Ignore people who are giving you nasty comments saying that your English sucks. You are in a learning process.
5 Stay original and don't be a copycat! Instead of copying you can take inspiration from other people and give it your own twist.
6 It's all about presentation for your post to get noticed.
7 It takes time to get noticed. Just think of you being a new celebrity that people have no idea who you are and they still need to get to know you.
This was a picture I made for the selfie with food contest by . I didn't win anything, because I didn't participate from the beginning. LOL
