What Happened?
https://steemit.com/history/@fatkat/6th-anniversary-of-murder-by-cop-of-kenneth-chamberlain-sr-whose-life-alert-pendant-malfunctioned-and-officer-may-have-called
The link above takes you to the article that caused my exit from steem.
So earlier today downvoted my post for about $2.75 or so, not 100% sure how to calculate it. I apologized and asked for clarification. He then posted a link to the rules he wants to enforce.
https://steemit.com/steemcleaners/@steemcleaners/abuse-guide-2017-update
I asked him specific questions about the rules, and questions about the intent of the copy paste rule that I was accused of improperly violating. I also asked him why he couldn’t just give me a warning as I’m totally fine subscribing to required norms to be left alone and not arbitrarily be interfered with. He did not answer any more questions.
I contacted on steem chat to see if he could please clarify the rules for me so I could learn and improve myself and better work with the collective. He did not respond.
I then started investigating his profile curious if he was always some Steemit saint and never made any posts that others might claim are “negative.” Not so much recently, subject to my limited investigation he was clean. But apparently he previously had a track record of copying whole posts including titles or other content from other sources, sometimes without putting the content in quotations (but url citation at bottom)—not only doing the copy paste he took money out of my pocket for, but even profiting off it.
Perhaps I misinterpreted things or perhaps he had good unknown unwritten rule exceptions for why he should be casting judgment on me when he apparently couldnt even be bothered to write an original title even. For all his posts that seemed hypocritical I posted a meaningful comment and asked him to clarify the difference.
After this the menace chose to downvote a different article of mine, that he even admitted was done purely out of malice to punish me for “trolling” him by asking him to clarify the rules and the invisible moral precepts of acceptable Steem conduct. So he cost me another nearly $3 which took me weeks to accumulate.
Not only did he do that anti-social behavior supposedly to help the steemit community he then downvoted a comment I had that was a link to peerhub for real guitars (USA Fender, Gibson 335, USB computer game controller) that members of the community could purchase using steem directly. This act is just baffling to me. I am offering real goods at fair prices that people can by in steem to help steem directly be used as a means of exchange.
then went on a downvote spree on my comments asking for clarification about the rules and how great a guide he is to be the police man for everyone.
This ragamuffin has cost me a lot of fiat and reputation and has pretty much soured the taste of steem to me.
His activity perhaps justified—depending on what the actual market wants the rules to be—spiraled into a spree of malice and bullying that has now cost Steem at least one user, me. And it has cost the community the ability to buy real things in steem. He is a real gem for the community.
This post was made for three reasons to possibly hopefully realize justice. To hopefully make the rules clearer so digital tyrants cant just hurt well intentioned people to the detriment of the whole network. And since he wanted to manufacture dissent and try to mask his hypocrisy and lack of moral authority to screw others over to put others on notice of what a truly horrendous member of Steemit is—but some of his posts seem cool. He shouldnt go away, but he shouldnt be such a bastard and should give people notice especially for things he has done before he fucks them over.
If this is steemit. Then I am probably good. I bet a platform that is nearly exactly like this but without power trip people like , or one that removes users’ like his capacity to hurt the network while keeping him invovled since he seeems to have some value could be pretty cool and change the world for the positive.
Ramblings and more in depth discussion
It is with sorrow that I am drafting this post. Steemit is pretty cool outside of at least one person. Perhaps there are other people who run people off and inhibit the use of the currency. This is likely my last post on the platform. It seems what appear to be hypocrites with arbitrary authority are choosing to enforce vague rules and do so without first putting new people on notice of rules to ensure there is some sort of mens rea—and to have rules that people can be guided by and adjust conduct rather than solely punitive to stroke bully’s egos. I am willing to follow any guidelines and would support more community standards.
@Littleboy as the interactions below illustrate took issue with my post about the 6 year anniversary of the murder of Kenneth Chamberlain Sr in White Plains New York after his health alert pendent malfunctioned and police forced their way into his home.
My post was largely copy and pasted, with citations, from various news media websites on the matter. The content was not just preassembled and copy pasted. My title and my headings were not preassembled by someone else. In fact, some of the transcripts I wrote out myself before I saw I could grab them off the DN website. The posts’ video timings so a user could choose to either read the transcripts or watch the video was not pre-assemblied. I provided significant proof of brain and spent significant time creating the post.
I was hoping my next post would not be my final one. And I was hoping to spend today rereading the Steemit Blue and White papers coming up with my own analysis and takeaways for people who dont want to read the whole thing and want an interpretation. I was also hoping to start working on constructing some sensitivity test frameworks for interesting quantitative analysis on the network.
Sure I could have—and would have if I had known what I did was insufficient— provided more analysis or would have cut down the transcripts and wikipedia analysis. But providing my opinion or speculating about things I have not extensively researched and playing the telephone game of me interpreting what primary accounts claim to be true was not my perspective with this post. My perspective was to provide you with what Wikipedia discussed and categorized about Kenneth Chamberlain Sr at the time, as well as line up interesting video content from Democracy Now of relevant actors discussing the event, as well as provide the reader with what is currently known about any civil suit for damages.
I think my post clearly provided value and made it so people could quickly see what others more related to and more researched about the topic have asserted. Perhaps it was too long if that is an issue? Or perhaps I should have done things differently which I would totally be willing to learn how and why things are wrong about the approach I took with the post.
So in my defense, my arguments are: that depending on what the goal of the content in the posts is to be, I think my post is totally fine. I also contend, that my post provides proof of brain and not just copy paste stuff. Secondly, black lives and whether they matter can be a hot button issue with some people. So rather than me asserting my perspective beyond the language I chose to deploy I wanted to cover the issues in a way that did not insert me into the story but instead more efficiently helped the reader evaluate the ideas of others more engaged than I on the matter and the current level of crowd sourced information on the matter on wikipedia at the time. And most importantly, if I clearly was put on notice that my post was unacceptable I would not have constructed it in that manner in the first place. If that approach to content is impermissible then I am totally cool not doing it, and perhaps retooling it, or just being silent.
C’est la vie. Good Bye Steem?
Where I am at?
I’ve met a lot of cool people on steemit and had some great conversations. I will keep in contact with all the cool people on here hopefully but I am done with Steem or at least the level of time I have been spending on it. If bullying people and acting in punitive ways rather than amicable ones is what the market demands here then I don’t think this was what I thought it could be and my time should be spent somewhere else.
Interactions Between @FatKat, @Littleboy & Significant Evidence Littleboy is a totally hypocrite and was happy to accumulate sbd of posts with much less value and much less proof of brain
