I'm on plenty of health mailing lists. Through one of them today, I landed on a fascinating article. You're busy so let me summarize.
And it sure applies to a lot of us.
Why does it affect so many of us Steemians?
Because we spend a lot of time sitting at computers which means we're indoors. Which means we're not out in the sun + we're probably not getting much fresh air.
Fresh air
The good doctor who wrote the article reminded us of Florence Nightingale, the nurse who threw the hospital windows open to let air and sunlight in — and as a result, more patients got better. He cites the dates, locations, and numbers.
He cites a report in New Scientist that showed that when you expose E. coli bacteria to fresh air, it dies within 2 hours.
As far as fresh air goes, it's obvious that the air conditioning equipment is recirculating the same air. And it's not fresh air. He cites 2 examples (US soldiers in the Gulf War + Chinese students). Both showed that fresh air was healthier... fewer sick people.
Sunlight
As far as sunlight goes, he reminds us that "UV light is antiseptic." But what about the dangers of skin cancer? There's a lamp that delivers UV rays at "the most useful wavelength" of 207 nm.
But sunlight is free and effective. According to an article in VitaminD.news, "Experts say that most people will find it sufficient to expose around 10 percent of their body to the sun a few times a week."
If you just can't get out in the sun for any reason, that article gives a short list of vitamin D-rich foods.
So there you have it. TWO easy free moves to boost your health so you can better enjoy your Steemit rewards.
