Fifth-generation or 5G technology roll out is poised to radically transform the telecom sector in India, offering an array of capabilities. Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, Friday met the telecom minister Manoj Sinha and telecom secretary Aruna Sundararajan to update the government on the plans of the conglomerate's telecom venture and discuss various global developments in the sector, especially around 5G.
“5G is a broad set of capabilities that could fundamentally transform the industry, business and individuals’ lives. The size of the band is also important and it is important to leverage a minimum of 100 Mhz in the 3.5GHz band as the starting point,”Jio’s president Mathew Oommen told ET. Three days ago, the telecom regulator proposed the debut auction of 5G airwaves for India, pegging the price at Rs492 crore for a unit in the 3300-3600 MHz band.
