Let's have an open, civil discussion about flagging.....
I am not a steemian who goes out of my way to find posts to flag, but if I happen to view (either due to browsing my feed or due to someone alerting me) posts that are plagiarized, or posts that are making personal attacks/contain hate speech, I will dish out a flag.
I always give an explanation as to why I am flagging, and it is not something that I do very often. If I am being completely honest, I always feel like absolute shit after flagging, I would rather use my voting power to help people. Yesterday, it was brought to my attention that a guy was stealing content from two steemians that I consider friends, so I went and flagged his posts, and it turns out he didn't like that very much. He has now begun using me as a subject for his posts, and is spamming hate filled comments underneath my posts.
He clearly wants attention, so you can view his posts: here and also here
It should be noted that I have never spoken with this individual, nor have I called him any names. I did point out that he should stop being an awful human being (but in all fairness that was after he had called me a slew of names). I was not trying to bully him, I was simply letting him know that stealing is not acceptable.
It should also be noted that contrary to his claims, I do not and never have worked for steemcleaners.
Sidenote: I understand that some people abuse the ability to flag, and I will not address this in this article because I have no ideas about how to stop that.
Also also: do not flag people if you are low reputation and/or low steem power, retaliation flags happen often. Do not abuse your ability to flag, simply disagreeing with someone is not a valid reason to flag them.
Enough about me, let's talk
How do you feel about flagging?
- Do you hate it?
- Do you think it is a function that is needed?
- How do you think it can be improved?
- Have you ever flagged? If so, for what reasons?
