Selling Votes

Recently a lot of people have been sending me SBD or Steem with links to their posts. At first I thought that is was kind of fun and I started voting for the links.

Very quickly my voting power went down and a virtual torrent of requests started coming in. Not wanting to disappoint anyone I tried at first to keep up with things but it became apparent that so much was coming in that there was no way that everybody would be happy if I voted for all of it. My voting power would go so low that no one would benefit from it.

I’m really not sure what a fair way to handle this is. Additionally I’m not sure if this is all that good of a thing to be doing for the Steemit platform as a whole. It feels a lot like self voting to me if I’m always just voting for people who send me SBD or Steem.

Contrary to what appears to be public perception, Hive account@lightsplasher is not chained to the keyboard like some programmed automaton. In fact Hive account@lightsplasher is prone to long periods of introspection when all things electronic are shunned or minimized, hence the long periods of time between postings. (Now you guys have got me talking about myself in the third person like Hive account@papa-pepper LOL. ;)

Trying to refund all of your SBD when I know I can’t or don’t want to vote for your posts takes me a lot of time and is prone to error.

I actually really enjoy just looking at random content and voting for the posts that I like or of people that I have made some connection with. This isn’t always an easy thing to quantify. Sometimes I like butterflies and flower pictures and sometimes I don’t.

I can see many people are making some really good content and I like to be able to vote up as many as possible without having to feel an obligation to vote just for the people who have sent me SBD. I try to give back to people who have done things for me as much as I can but things can’t always be ‘fair’ in a way that trades equal value for equal value.

In short please stop sending me SBD with links to posts. I think this will be better for everyone. If anyone wants any amount refunded from amounts sent to me please let me know in the comments below or through wallet messages and I will gladly refund you.
