If you are new to Steemit, sometimes it can get a bit overwhelming. Some of us come here thinking that it is the same as all the other social media platforms. Let me tell you, it is not.
Steemit is a wonderful place. It is a place to express yourself and a place to share your passions with the world. Not to mention, the abundance of knowledge you can find here. Steemit can become whatever you want it to be.
So, do you want to know how to gain success on Steemit?
To be a player, you must first know how to play the game.
I am going to share with you 5 tips to help you find your way around Steemit a little better, get noticed and become the successful blogger you came here to be.
Tip #1
ABSOLUTELY NO SPAM
As a new user, you are going to start by sharing post that make little to no money at all. You have put all this time, effort and thought into your wonderful post only to get a very small payout.
What do you do?
You don't spam. That's what you do. You have to let it go and move on to the next topic. Keep on keeping on. Take the time to keep up on new and interesting topics. Make your content full of quality. Eventually, your reputation and followers will continue to grow and you will soon get the payouts you came here for.
If you spam, you will most definitely piss off the big fish. You don't want to do that. Why? Because you could potentially get flagged. Flags can do some serious damage to you that you probably don't want.
The biggest form of spam that I've seen is when you constantly share your same post over and over again. That could be the same post reposted into more than the original 5 tags. It could also be literally reposting the same content into the same tags more than once. It jams up the feed and doesn't allow other users the fair chance to be seen. Trust me, I know it sucks to work hard on a post knowing that is basically your one chance for a while to get that content out and nobody has seen it.
That is just how the cookie crumbles
Tip #2
CHECK YOUR BANDWIDTH
Seriously, when you are a new user you need to keep a close eye on your bandwidth. At least until your steem power is a little higher. If you use up all of the bandwidth that you have, the message "Bandwidth limit exceeded" will appear when you try to do just about anything on Steemit.
What is bandwidth?
To make this really simple, your bandwidth determines the amount of information that can be sent out by you. This includes posting, upvotes, comments, resteems and claiming rewards. Basically, you're banned from doing anything on Steemit besides looking at other authors content. You don't want that and neither do we. Unless you spam, only then is it justifiable.
To check your bandwidth, you are going to go to your browser and type in Steemd.com/[your user name]
For example, this is what mine would look like ---> Steemd.com/@magicalmoonlight
As I mentioned in the beginning, Steemit is not like other social media sites. You can't sign up for Steemit and come here upvoting, resteeming and commenting on every post you see. At least, you can't do that in the beginning. Limit your upvotes to those that truly delivered quality content. Proof read your work, editing your post will use up a significant amount of bandwidth as well. Don't comment just to comment. Only comment when you actually have something to say. 'Good post' or 'Great article' will only use up your bandwidth and more than likely you won't gain a single thing from that simple comment.
Try to keep your bandwidth in the green as much as possible.
Tip #3
USE YOUR TOOLS
Steemit has many tools that could help you make your way around here a lot smoother. For now, I am only going to discuss one. The Upvoters tool. It is a very conveinent and effective way to see who is active on not only your profile but also the profile of others. You can use this tool in two ways-
Once you have established yourself around here and you gain some followers, you can use the Upvoters tool and see who your biggest fans are. This will show you who has Upvoted you the most and what your total payout from that user is.
You can also play detective on Upvoters. 🔎 As you probably know, Steemit is transparent. Everything that you do can be seen.
Since #1 is self explanatory, #2 is what I'm going to talk about real quick. Find a user that you admire. One that you follow that really motivates you and has a lot of activity on their page. Use the Upvoters tool but instead of your user name, type theirs. From there you can see who their biggest fan is.
After you have found a few really active users, you can go to their profile. Invest time on their post with meaningful comments and cross your fingers that they notice you too!
Here is how to access the Upvoters tool
In the top right corner of your Steemit dashboard there will be three small horizontal lines, click on them.
Find the Steemit App Center. This will take you to Steemit Tools.
Next, search for Upvoters.
You will then need to input your username.
Easy peasy, right?
It works if you work it!
Tip #4
BE YOURSELF
This can go many ways. Here are a few good ideas 💡
Find your niche. Decide what you want to blog about. Is it cooking, photography, crypto, everything about life? Whatever you are interested in, stick to it. Include pictures,videos and/or gifs and be sure to format in an appealing way. Again, write quality content. If you are just posting a picture or meme, spice it up. Add something worth reading about that relates to your picture. Give your followers what they are expecting from you. Brand yourself and try out the bucket method.
What is the bucket method?
It is basically like reeling the reader in on a hook. You want them to read until the end, right? Well, give them a reason to read to the end. Get the readers attention with a really good title and picture and then give them the bait almost immediately. Is it steps to success you are discussing, a funny joke or maybe even a way to get the stains out of your underwear? Whatever it is, bait the reader.
For example, "I'm going to tell you a joke about the time little johnny asked his mom where babies come from but first, let me tell you this funny story..."
Provide quality relatable content in between the joke (or whatever you chose) and the answer. Reel the reader in.
💥BAM!!💥
As long as you delivered quality content, you have successfully just reeled the reader straight to you.
Tip #5
HAVE PATIENCE
This one is going to be short and sweet. Practice patience. You won't get rich quick so don't expect it. Enjoy what you are doing, build a good solid fan base and then let the money come to you.
