Physicians for the time being have some prestige. The prospective students are competing with other students for a relative few spots.
Here are some observations:
Grades are somewhat important; especially the prerequisites such as organic chemistry, physics and other courses required to take the MCAT (medical college acceptance test).
They are gatekeeper courses which can weed out many students by discouraging them or by failure to successfully pass them. Swallow your pride, and ask for help.
Pre-Med is a very competitive mindset! Do not tell other students you have your sights on medical school! You will be seen as competition! Take some of the difficult prerequisites during Summer school when class size is small.
If you are seen as competition, you will be sabotaged! Discretion is the best mindset!
Take classes or a field of study that interests you. Take the prerequisites as electives or core courses. Follow your interests, and you'll be in the flow, and enjoying yourself and have a higher gpa! You don't have to be a scientist to be a physician.
Take anatomy and physiology. To learn the language and terminology. A microbiology course is also great to take.
Learn to unwind and blow off steam without alcohol or recreational drugs. Pre-Med is the easy part of the process! I saw too many in medical school whom could only function with the bad habits. Eventually they catch up!
Have a backup plan. It's not an honest system of selecting physicians in training. The best do not always get selected!
