There is a massive problem occurring on the YouTube platform right now, creators are finding themselves with a lot less money coming in, demonetization and general unhappiness about the way YouTube is moving. They are essentially pushing out creators that do not meet the idealistic version they want of content. Any swearing is penalized within the algorithm and their videos are becoming a lot less popular due to them not being on the trending or recommended sections. This is essentially a very subtle way of censorship and i'm surprised there hasn't been greater backlash outside of YouTube, especially in the wake of what Facebook have been doing banning political pages.
Why this could be a good thing for Steem
This is a perfect opportunity for Steem to become mainstream in term of media, with apps such as Dtube it presents an alternative platform to creators that has many benefits over Steem. Firstly its censorship free, no centralized body can do this, although the other Steemians can do this through downvoting this is unlikely unless they abuse the system. Also the creators get all the money from their hard work and quality content. YouTube take 40% of creators profits.
What we can do as a community?
I think we need to actively comment, email and in general raise awareness across YouTube about this alternative choice. We need to do this now as well because whilst there is upset and wanting change it is the perfect time. Creators may become complacent if they don't see an alternative and the opportunity may pass. Also if we only get one YouTuber with big influence, they will bring a level of quality that will raise the rest of Steemit, they will bring a vocal audience who will also take part in Steem and cause a ripple effect throughout YouTube hopefully generating more and more transitions.
So guys what do you think and what have you been doing to promote Steem?
