Top end overhaul
Tore this one down quite a while ago and finally had time to put it back together. I ended up waiting the longest for the machine shop to finish up with the cylinder which needed to be resleeved.
The owner had a friend rebuild it previously who forgot to put one piston pin circlip on... caused huge damage to the cylinder wall but still ran. Burned oil like crazy.
Now the pretty new parts
It took a long time to find a sleeve for this cylinder and then the machine shop ruined the first one and I had to track down another one...
There was serious carbon buildup on the valve train and whoever rebuilt it last time used an extreme amount of blue silicone... I hate silicone.
I'm a huge fan of Wiseco piston kits, price is good, good quality and gasket kits always fit.
Its always hard to decide where to draw the line on older machines with when to fix it or let it die. This one could easily become a money pit for the owner if he isn't careful. I went with only fixing the necessities to keep it running smoothly.
This one has a lot of cosmetic damage as well from pushing cows around and other such farm chores.
Thanks for reading through! Hope some of you liked seeing a bit of what goes into a quick top end repair on an ATV.
Peace.
