So questions on censorship came up a couple of times during a Steemit Meetup and I wondered if concerns over privacy were the real drivers on censorship questions. To me, there is no contradiction between how public blockchains resist censorship and enable private communications. Censorship is about governments removing or editing messages meant to be public and open whereas privacy is about protecting privileged information to specific individuals or groups. I'm a fan of privacy and against censorship. I believe, Steemit as a social media blockchain can and does both, currently. I don't see a lot of examples of people practicing privacy in blogs on Steemit but it can be done ,of course, on encryption and a sound key management plan for senders and privileged readers.
