I discovered that most of us see steemit as Facebook or other lousy social media networks where we only like the posts made by those do like ours.
While others wait to be begged before they upvote, others blatantly refuse to upvote at all.
Many of us think that upvoting a post means loosing money to someone. Others see it as helping someone succeed and thus refuse to upvote as they don't wanna see anyone succeed around them. And if they'll to upvote you! They'll see it as if though they're doing you a favour.

Am quite sure everyone is selfish or better put, everyone has to be selfish atimes in life, but being selfish with your upvotes, is being selfish even to yourself.
Upvoting is business. To me, upvoting is an investment, a very profitable one at that.
Basically this is what happens. You have 100steem worth of Voting Power. When you upvote a post, you don't loose any of your steem. You basically don't loose anything. You're not the one paying the author of the post you upvoted as no physical cash was deducted from your wallet. The blockchain rewards the author for attracting your $0.01 worth of VP. The blockchain never deducts your steem. So you lost nothing.
Now see the good news, you invested absolutely nothing other than the energy you engaged in upvoting the post. But after 7 days, you'll be rewarded by the blockchain as well for appreciating an authors content.
You see? You invested $0 to earn. Steemit is not like other social networks.
