As of now, there are only three things that I know.

Hive account@dan will not be posting.
Hive account@dan will not be voting.
Hive account@dan submitted his resignation to steemit inc. today

Who knows what this will mean for steemit, but we would do well not to panic. Dan is a very talented and busy individual, so he may just be moving on and being busy elsewhere. Either way, he helped make steemit what it is, and has blessed a lot of us in many ways.

Whether or not this will affect the value of STEEM, I can only speculate.
