I almost lost my account forever. I was an idiot. I did not back up my password anywhere, not even in a notepad file. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure I ever even knew what my WIF password key was, because I had been relying on firefox to store my login info for me. This all came to bite me in the ass when I decided to do a "reset" on my Windows 10 PC because of some annoying malware my wife had infected our PC with. Well of course in doing this reset, all of my data was wiped (luckily not really all of it, since I didn't choose the full wipe option). After spending a week thinking all was lost and pretty much giving up on steem, I had an epiphany and realized I could recover the old firefox profile data from the Windows.old folder windows generates when you do a reset. After copying over the old data I was back in business. I got back on steem. As soon as I was in my profile I changed my password, being very careful to SAVE IT SOMEWHERE SAFE this time. Please, learn from my mistake, and the mistake of many others less fortunate than myself and BACK UP your password, or you'll be sorry!
