Minnow's Song
I’ll tell you a tale, of him a Great Whale,
A Whale, that all did admire,
Caring his creed, most noble in deeds,
Hence Whale, did poets inspire.
For Whale was kind, left no one behind,
Ensured, that all would they eat,
The meek and the weak of lesser physique,
Harder, for them to compete.
Well came him one day, 'cross Minnow dismayed,
As Minnow, could no longer cope,
His words did they quake, as heart did it break,
For Minnow, had lost him his hope.
“What’s wrong Little One, where shines it your sun,
We bathe in water that’s warm,
The skies they're a blue of beautiful hue,
Yet seems … you swim in a storm.”
Well the Minnow replied of how he had tried,
Tried, to sing it his song,
But as he was small, did silence befall,
In ocean, did not he belong.
The Whale said naught, but words they were thought,
For words, have power once said,
Some things one asserts, help less than they hurt,
For Truths, are often to dread.
“It’s true you are small, and not whale-tall,
Your voice, it carries not far,
But what is a song, when words they are wrong,
It’s words … that leave them a scar.
If words you will bring, those words will I sing,
So choose, the song of your choice,
We’ll others beguile, they’ll hear for a mile,
For I … have thunderous voice.”
So Whale did do, for Minnow in lieu,
Sang song, as Minnow had wrote,
As made they impact, the words did attract,
As Whale did Minnow he quote.
All gathered around, as song did astound,
We hear, but that which is heard,
All eyes did they fall, on Minnow so small,
“Who wrote … those beautiful words?"
Well, respecting 's Great 10,000 STEEM Delegation, the poll will close on Sunday, and I will be deprived of further pretext to ply you with poetry. My first attempt and my second.
This past week has been ... amazing.
My Nominee Group, the Power House Creatives (formerly SteemitBloggers, and listed as such in the poll) is one of the three groups still in the running. To garner votes, we have been jumping through hoops to an extent that is, quite frankly, awe-inspiring. Our Discord Channel is like Allied HQ during the Normandy Invasion.
Never would I have imagined that a group of people would work so hard for a year's worth of upvotes on what amounts to, approximately, USD $3,300. But, if I'm being honest, it's not just about the money.
The Power House Creatives have a mission: To set the Quality Standard against which all other content will be measured. It is a presumptuous, perhaps even pompous, ambition ... but it is the one by which we live. And so: Our poets strive to be Shakespeare; our satirists, Mark Twain; our musicians, Beethoven or the Beatles.
But, there is an unease that we all feel: In an environment where earning more than $10 (or even $5) on a post pretty much requires buying it with bidbots, perhaps creating quality content simply doesn't matter. And, if quality doesn't matter ... than neither do we. And so, something about this contest has become existential in nature, a desire to demonstrate that we are still relevant. That our banner ... is not but a flag for fools.
For those who don't know, is a Whale. And, for whatever reason, he has decided to delegate 10,000 STEEM, for a year, to the winning Nominee Group. This is a noble gesture and one worthy of gratitude.
And so, , on behalf of all the participants in this contest, the winners and losers alike, thank you ... for helping us to sing our songs.
