So recently I've had a few discussions in the comments sections of posts about Steemit, the state of Steemit, the future of Steemit, and today something hit me.
The entire layout, user interface, and nature of how Steemit works is completely wrong for the type of platform it is. I've heard talk of "communities" comming to Steemit, and while that would be a great thing, it seems to be a lot of talk and not a whole lot of action.
Despite having been on here for over a year I don't really get under the hood of Steemit and understand all the inner workings, probably like most of your average social media platform users who are the people were trying to get on here and keep on here.
I've never been part of Steemit chats because quite honestly I don't want to have to jump around from Steem chat, to discourse to discord to telegram just to have a fucking conversation, it's asking too much and that's partly why retention on here is so bad because most people can't be bothered. I'm no fan of Facebook, fuck I don't even have a Facebook account unless you count a fake name account I only use to run Facebook ads and to send unsolicited dick pics to pretty girls, okay just kidding about the second part I don't really do that.
Anyhow, my point is on most platforms it doesn't require so much effort to be a part of the community. Recently I had commented on one of 's post inquiring if he would be willing to do an interview on my Youtube Channel and he told me to contact him on Discourse or Discord or whatever it's called. I set it up to message him but quite honestly I'm not sure how to go back and check that message or see if he's responded. I'm gonna try to figure it out because I'm a big fan of his and his content and I'd love to have him on but that's really the only time I've ever given a shit enough to branch out into this maze of trying to be fully part of this community.
We call Steemit a social media platform and a community, but it's more a blogging platform with a community aspect intertwined.
When you actually think about it Steemit really isn't about content, it's about networking and engaging with others and community, yet the entire way the site works is more like a Medium or a Blogger than it is a community site. When I think about communities I think about groups, and Q&A sites like Quora, Yahoo Answers or Reddit, I don't think of a blogging platform.
And I think most of us can agree that creating content doesn't get you ahead, most of it goes unseen so despite having an interface that's condusive to creating content on a platform that doesn't reward content is backwards as fuck. Also, if I actually want to message someone and have a chat with someone there's no way to do it besides randomly commenting on a post publicly for all to see and most likely about a topic that's completely unrelated to the post.
I hear people often say Steemit is a cross between Reddit and Medium, and I've even parroted that myself for a long time, but Steemit is nothing fucking like Reddit, Reddit has messaging, Reddit has a Q&A format that's really condusive to discussions and interaction, Steemit is nothing at all like Reddit. That's not necessarily good or bad its just not. Steemit is like a Blogger or a Medium.
I guess my point is this. If content isn't the focus here and if content isn't rewarded we shouldn't have a layout and interface that's completely content centric.
What the fuck's going on with the whole "groups" thing anyways? Is that ever gonna happen and what's it gonna look like?
Anyhow, that's my ramblings for the day. Take is as you will motherfuckers...
ps. I'm not angry I just find people really connect with posts when I call them motherfuckers at the end. Love y'all.
