After the bad news from yesterday, I wonder what happens if Steemit Inc. goes bankrupt? Are there real opportunities for dapps to continue to exist without Steemit? Isn't Steemit too important for Steem? But if so, how to save Steemit? And why do we put round pizza in a square box and then eat them in triangles?
I have been active here for over two years and must honestly say, I do not really trust the whole thing anymore. In over two years, the visible part of the platform has changed almost nothing except a few colors (and a nightmode). Still no communities, no nothing, all the same. Even in times when the cryptocurrencies have gone through the ceiling, nothing changed. Sure, a lot has happened in the invisible background, but a social network needs also progress in the visible user area. But anyways, I'm just talking about the past. The past happend as it happend, the past can't be changed and talking about the past is pointless and boring.
So let's talk about the now (wow, how spiritual!). When it comes to content, the trending site is still very boring (!) compared to trending sites on other social networks (this sentence was not sponsored by reddit, but it could be, please donate). Why is the trending site so boring and demotivating? Thanks to paid votes and whale circle jerks. There is enough good content here, but seriously, since the beginning of Steemit the good stuff stays nearly invisible here. Steemit became exactly like our whole society: The power is concentrated among a few rich people (rich in SP), who are talking mainly bullshit (not all of them) while jerking each other of, how business minded they are and how nice it is to be "free".
In my opinion, to be sustainable, it all needs one thing in particular: authenticity.
The site is far too centralized around a few users and money-driven. Only when there is equality and innovation for (new) users and less boring bullshit in the trending feeds, Steemit can become a functioning (and for investors interesting, ho ho ho) social network. Steemit needs to be more user friendly, more decentralized, more "Let's change the world!" instead of "This post was upvoted by xyzwhalebot3000 thanks to the author himself, who is just rich, and takes himself too serious."
I hope you enjoyed my cynical words and remember: Nothing matters at all. Have a good night (or day, because also time doesn't matter).
