Hi Steemians,
I was asked a question after my last post and I realized that I hadn’t explained why Most Steemians can make a lot of Steem from upvoting comments, possibly as much or more then post rewards. I would like to explain it in words, but also use numbers.
So first some definitions, so we all have the “same” understanding of the words I am going to use.
Author: person who writes a post or comment on a post.
Curator: person who upvotes someone else’s post or upvotes someone else’s comment.
Author rewards are 75% of the total value of the post reward or comment reward.
Curator reward is 25% of the total reward for the post or comment.
Reward Distribution: curation rewards are shared according to your Steem Power and percentage of voting power used on the upvote.
Now let’s discuss rewards.
Comment rewards:
If you reply to my post, and I upvote your comment, you get the author reward for that comment. Whomever upvotes your comment gets a share of the curation reward for your comment.
Example
So if you write a comment on my post and the total post reward is 10 cents. You wrote the comment, so you get the author reward for the comment, which is 75% or 7.5 cents, and the people who upvote the comment you wrote get to share the 25% curation reward or 2.5 cents. Note that I said a share, all who upvote the comment get a share, so if your the only one you get all the curation reward.
Remember!
If no one Upvotes their comments the 25% curation reward is deducted anyway. So upvote a comment so the reward can go to you.
Those of you who use Partiko also get Partiko points, which you can then use to upvote your own posts and make even more Steem.
Now let’s take this a step further. What if ten people upvote the comment you leave on my post? That could be ten cents, or 20 cents or even 40 cents, so your reward could be 7.5 cents, 15 cents or 30 cents.
But the people who upvote your comment get to share in the curation reward, which is 25% of the total comment reward. There are no limits on the comment rewards.
Bonus Tip: because there are usually less upvotes on comments, the people who do upvote them get a larger share.
ReSteem
If the total value of upvotes on my post is $10.00, I get 75% or $7.50, but the people who upvote my post get to split the curation reward, which is 25% or $2.50.
Now if everyone who Upvotes the post also ReSteems the post, the total reward could go to $20.00.
This means the curation reward which is 25% is now $5.00 so the reward for everyone who Upvotes the post gets doubled because they ReSteemed the post.
Example:
My post on blue flowers gets resteemed by two people and it gets $10.00 rewards.
The curation rewards are 25% or $2.50 dollars.
That means $2.5 is shared by all who upvoted the post.
My post on red flowers however gets Resteemed by ten people and it gets $20.00 rewards.
The curation reward is now 25% or $5.00 which is shared by all who upvoted the post.
Frequently asked Questions.
What is an upvote? It’s when you click the up arrow under a post at the end to give a reward to the author from the rewards pool of Steem which is generated daily on the blockchain and doesn’t actually come from your wallet.
What is a resteem? It’s when you click the arrow traveling in a circular path at the end of a post. This puts it on your list of posts and sends it to the feed of everyone of your followers.
