Sneaky Ninja Rules Updates and Hack Explanation.
Sneaky Ninja's Vote is Worth Over $45 right now!!
Ok, first of all. A lot of people have been asking how this account could have been hacked.
The first thing I can tell you is that even if you are mega careful with your keys, without Steemit introducing a 2fa like basically any other crypto site that people keep their money on, this site will never be 100% safe. The users of this site should not have to go through so many hoops to protect themselves. After all I just went through to protect this account again I feel like a mega paranoid hacker that just got flagged peering in on the NSA.
The sheer fact that when you click the hamburger link in the top right corner of your screen and one of the links right there super easy to find says "Stolen Accounts Recovery" kinda tells you that they in fact know how easy it is to have your account hacked and stolen. A simple two factor authentication system could change that link to a "Lost key recovery" link and save a lot of people a lot of time and money.
If your system gets compromised its game over.
I've always been very careful with my keys. What seems to have happened is that my home system was compromised.
The most obvious situation was a keystroke logger on my home system.
The most likely suspect ran away about a week ago taking tons of money that he owed out to a lot of people.
If you have been paying attention then you know who I mean.
If not, I'm not going to post that publicly, so read between the lineZ.
So, after wiping my harddrive, installing a new OS and only reinstalling absolutely essential programs, while keeping literally every file I own disconnected from my system (Told you it was pretty ridiculous lol), I now feel comfortable that this account is again safe.
As users of this platform we should never have to take these kind of precautions. Honestly, the general public (who we try all the time to get here on steemit) would have no clue how to anyway.
Long story short, Steemit needs to be much more user friendly, and definitely needs a two factor authentication system in place if we expect to grow at the rate we want to.
I hope this covers any questions that you all have about the incident.
Ok enough about that, onto the Rules Updates.
The rules are basically the same as you can find on this post, with a couple of changes.
- Sneaky Ninja will no longer vote on comments. You can only send in bids for posts from this point forward.
- The minimum bid is now $.10 SBD. You will not get a vote if you send less than this.
- From now on, if you send STEEM it will be considered a donation. It has always been only for SBD however some people have been sending STEEM on occasion still. He ignores STEEM transfers, you will not get a vote if you send STEEM.
- Refunds are given if you do not get a vote ONLY. If you send to much (within reason) or your url isn't copied right, that is on you. If you send below the minimum of .10 it will be considered a donation as well. This rule has a little grey area, i'll be honest. I am a human who understands when mistakes are made.
- Sneaky Ninja does accept donations. If you would like to donate to the ninja just send any amount of STEEM to him (STEEM only for donations). All donations he does receive will go directly to purchasing more delegated SP to increase his vote and ultimately helps the community.
I think I've covered everything now.
If I have anything else I'll make another post.
Happy Bidding!!
