How many times were we told that Steemit is different; that Steemit is better than the rest; or how Steemit is going to set a new standard for social media?
I know there are a lot of weirdos on here who have a genuine emotional connection with this platform, and who will be offended if someone dare speak bad about it, but I think it's about fucking time people started being honest with themselves.
Where in the world, before Steemit, would you have been able to hear someone talking about buying votes? Where else would such an obviously immoral transaction be acceptable? Even the government have to obfuscate their selling of votes to the corporations, because even those shameless bastards know that selling votes is never okay.
But, a few moments ago I just seen something on one of my own posts that was able to surprise me. Here's yet another example of how Steemit is changing the world.
Now I don't know how successful this person's witness campaign is likely to be. But, it sums up the atmosphere that has been created here on this platform, by casually offering bribes in public, knowing that no one - bar perhaps myself an a few others - would have a problem with it.
Perhaps many of you will look upon this as nothing. But I see a lot more than just a poor attempt at bribery. I see a community that has permitted so much abuse for so long, that now abuse is accepted as Steemit-etiquette. This dude probably doesn't even see it as a bribe, because this is Steemit, where you can buy votes. So it's not a bribe. It's just following the rules of the blockchain- which is of course more important than following the rules of morality that we ought to be setting for ourselves.
I don't have much else to say on the matter. I just think this place is going to shit, and I've no clue why the fuck and the Steemit team haven't made any effort to fix things. I think until we see any level of effort made by the Steemit team to make things fairer on this platform, people need to stop pretending this is better than facebook. Because the truth of the matter is that it's not. Go on facebook and start making public bribes or public attempts to purchase votes of any type, and you will be looked upon like a shitty human being. Do it here, however, and people will lick your arse dry in the hopes that you might share some of your ill-acquired wealth with them. Tell me again how this better?
